In the wake of this week's tragic murder of members of The Yellow Dogs, two benefit funds to aid both the survivors and families of the victims have been created by surviving band members and friends:
With Great Sadness and Shock today , I hear of the shooting of Ali Eskandarian , my young musician friend . Ali opened for my 2008 Retrospective Tour. My memory of Ali is one of a young man full of verve and love of lfe , at once committed to advocating for the easing of the subjugation of his people as well as forging ahead with stoic contemorary NYC music cool . That his end has been so sudden and tragic leaves us who knew Ali appalled. Our prayers go out to Ali's family and the families of his fellow band mates of The Yellow Dogs murdered alongside him.

Today, I hear also of our Bauhaus fine Engineer, Producer, and Mentor Derek Tompkins passing away this past Wed 6th November, and send sincere condolences to Mavis, his wife of many years. Derek's studio, Beck Studios, in my hometown of Wellingborough, was the place where, as a new band, Bauhaus went to make our first ever Demo recording for the grand price of £11 . Recording five songs , which included the one take only of Bela Lugosi's Dead , the same mix was used as the master recording for this seminal classic. Indeed this was the first ever vocal that as a singer I had recorded, and together with the band we sensed a magic in the air as we finished the song. Derek's presence and expertise was crucial in this moment. We subsequently invited Derek to be with us a co-Producer on the two Bauhaus albums Burning from the Inside & The Sky's Gone Out.
All We Ever Wanted Was Eveything -- and when we asked -- Derek came along.
It is the hour of the Roses (Seher)....the time each day, that hour before dawn when it is said that those refined souls--Saints, Prophets and Masters--walk among us, the sweetest time to make one's ablutions and to prostrate to the Creator. .. that I hear the news that my brother and noble friend Cheb ı Sabbah passed from here to there . Not a time of grieving, but one of celebration of what we call the Wedding Day of the Servant to his Lord. I had the privilege to visit Cheb i at his home in SF some 10 days ago, where I delivered my small contribution toward Cheb i 's new work, and we enjoyed Sohbet or intimate conversation, respect, and Love. Cheb i was ready for whatever was to come, not living in fear, no desperation. Indeed ever living in the moment only, playing us his new works fully alive and what's more, serving us the sweetest chai and making us laugh into the small hours. We pray for his ever refining journey in the Lap of Compassion with his Lord, for strength to those loved ones that remain here , and we pray for Chebi 's very own Chidren and grandchildren, who are arrows shot ahead of him in tradition of service of Love, Light and carry his candle Faith onwards.

They call him the Godfather of Goth. Peter Murphy is best known as the vocalist of legendary sonic pioneers Bauhaus, whose 1979 single "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is largely considered to be the beginning of the Gothic rock genre. But like any true innovator, Murphy has proved himself unafraid to leave behind the worlds that he creates, to tear down the walls of his own dark castle in the post-punk underworld and go in search of unknown creative terrain upon which to rebuild. After he disbanded Bauhaus in 1983, Murphy embarked on years of exploration as both a solo musician and painter. Nearly a decade later, in a sign of his lasting brilliance, he created American pop anthem "Cuts You Up" (1990), which sat at the top of the Billboard Modern Rock charts longer than any other number one hit that year. The musical descendants of Murphy and Bauhaus are well documented, and the artists's style has been a force no less powerful.
"Bauhaus popularized an image of black-clad Goths which continues to influence mainstream fashion," writes Valerie Steele in her book with Jennifer Park, Gothic: Dark Glamour. "Mask is irrefutable evidence that Bauhaus pioneered the dark theatrics characteristic of the Goth genre," continues Park, referring to the band's 1981 album. "Bauhaus was a band that understood the power of image early on...the erotically androgynous good looks of Peter Murphy well suited the Goth emphasis on beauty, and his attention to style again reiterated fashion's ultimate status in Goth subculture."
A Muslim who has called Istanbul his home for the past twenty years, Murphy cites family as his earliest style inspiration: "My father, Michael Patrick, who in the 1930s was a natty turnout in wide Trilby and a wide swathing woolen beige long coat." The e-mail he sends me from California while on tour supporting his recent record, Ninth, is written in a beautiful Joyce-meets-Anthony Burgess vernacular. "My near twin brother Christopher's '70's Ben Sherman shirts," he continues. "Then his full testosterone black three-quarter Crombie coat, dancing to Northern soul and Reggae at our youth club, all pubescent and checkin' out the girls--cool. Not to mention my mother Margaret Ellen's own makeup sessions in our sunflower concave dinner room mirror, the pinnacle of the wist being as she applied her just right, deep crimson, strawberry red lipstick, rendering her own natural beauty just so!"
His influence permeates several generations and genres of fashion designers. It's of course present in the more devotedly Gothic, such as Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester, and Yohji Yamamoto (and the subculture of artisan darkwear born thereof, like Carol Christian Poell, Carpe Diem, and it's disciples, and Paul Harnden). But it's also visible in the work of preeminent designers Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Martin Margiela, and John Galliano, as well as today's young pioneers, such as Riccardo Tisci, Olivier Theyskens, and Alexander Wang.
And yet, Murphy says, "What I look like and what I wear is not fashion. What I wear is an integral part of my whole. In relation to my music and my work--I see my clothes as part and parcel of the same movement. As I write a song, I write upon myself, too. It's all interrelated."
It's been almost three and a half decades since Murphy's cellar-door voice first cried out its declaration of a new melancholic unity. The night will begin with cocktails as guests arrive. A moonlit 2-act concert will follow, with a special set list that has been chosen and arranged for this event. After the show, the party begins, with cocktails, a moveable feast, music, and merriment. Peter will join in the festivities and spend the evening revelling with his guests. Smaller groups will be invited throughout the evening to join Peter in a private room at the location to have more intimate conversation, take photos, and sign autographs. Special Miracula Halloween gifts will be given to each guest.

Illegal Downloads.
As the music industry grapples with the reality of the illegal proliferation of music and film content, that is in actuality the intellectual and fiscal property of its artist creators. As a musician who has come from the 'pre-internet age' and seeing the impact first hand on my own income source, which has been lessened. Whilst I am for the industry developing as many protective measures as possible to remind the public that illegal downloading is in fact virtual theft, I also understand the reflex to take something that appears to be 'free' via any and such rogue web sources. I personally trust that the free radical nature of the internet in this respect will evolve towards a more controlled culture where both the artist and fan will reach a middle ground as we see more and more artists offering many free content to audiences. From my 'artists' perspective, I'd say that I am concerned about a worst case scenario whereby the uncontrolled illegal free pilfering of art (the property of the Artist) will lead to the nigh on radical decline and dissuasion of budding artists to even begin to surface, as well as rendering present artists redundant and, ironically, being destroyed by the very same fans that enjoy the work. Fans might want to be careful about this syndrome. In essence, the WWW does offer fantastic new ways of sharing art, through ever budding new ways to continue that wonderful conversation between the artist and the audience.

it we find the mystical revelation of the essence of this Nur Mohammadiyya
and the central pillar of Quranic ascension mysticism.
God is the light of the heavens and earth,
The light like the light of a lamp in a niche
The lamp enclosed in a cover of glass
The glass like a glistening star
Kindled from the oil of a blessed tree
An olive not of the East not of the West
Its oil glows forth nearly without the touch of fire
Light on light God guides to his light whomsoever he wills
Allah strikes symbols for humankind
Allah in all things is most knowing
God is the light of the heavens and earth, Allah is Light and has created everything out of Light. Not only the light
we perceive in the physical world but the light we perceive spiritually which
supports all creation itself. When this light starts shining upon the regions of
the heart, the lamp of the heart will be lit. This light has a special quality or
effect and when ignited in the regions of the heart provides the spiritual
impetus to return to God.
The light like the light of a lamp in a niche This light has been placed in the heart of each being just like a light which
has been placed in a lamp which has been covered by a glass. It needs only a
touch of a saint to be lit or awakened.
The lamp enclosed in a cover of glass The glass like a glistening star
Is like a light within the heart which shines like a glistening star in the
middle of the night illuminating the darkness of the heart in all directions.
As the darkness is dispelled in the heart it now begins to radiate outwardly
with this First light. Since this light is...
Kindled from the oil of a blessed tree
It shines within the deepest recesses of the heart with such purity that
unleashes the lightning of divine discoveries. This lightening will generate
the thunderclouds of meaning, from
An olive not of the East not of the West
And shedding light upon the tree of discovery, so pure, so transparent

Its oil glows forth nearly without the touch of fire
Nothing can compare to the experience of this divine luminosity which
defies rationale description, explanation and is at once an answer to the cry
of the soul within every being who comes into this world.
Light on light God guides to his light whomsoever he wills
As He who is All Light reaches down to touch our light with His light we
are divinely attracted back to our source which is the pre eternal light, first
Light, Divine Essence the Nur Mohammadiyya, through which…
Allah strikes symbols for humankind
Whose Prophets and saints are his signs or symbols which give faith,
direction and certitude and ultimately mediate our return to our original
Face, about which it is said "and to Him we are returning"…and
Allah in all things is most knowing.
God's wisdom is unlimited beyond comprehension apprehension or
explanation and the only path is to submit to the will of the almighty. It is
God who is the pre-eternal source of light, manifesting the being of the
Prophet out of this Light and then casting a light into those souls he seeks to
guide back to Him.
The Prophet reiterates this same thought, "God Most High created men in
darkness, then sprinkled on them some of His light."
God in his perfect wisdom created his saints from this same light who are his
living symbols ("strikes symbols") of his power and glory in this world.
Each of them has the obligation of knowing his Lord by coming fully into
the Light of Lights. We can then say it is only through these polarized Lights
of God his saints and Prophets that souls can return to God. Who then is the
true Shaykh? Rumi tells us, "The Perfect Shaykh is the absolute Light of
God,"

11th September 2001: A Response from Love

*They reached for their mobile phones and called their beloved, to say
simply, “I love you”. No anger, incomprehension or blame at what was taking
place. Only Love and the urgency of declaring it; because on this threshold
there is only life, death and Love.*
*About the events of 11th September all are convinced of one thing: that the
world is no longer the same place as it was. Many apparent certainties,
yardsticks and parameters have been removed at a stroke. It is now ours to
determine whether that day becomes for us a day of grief, the tombstone of
our certainties; or a day of unveiling, opening up a far greater possibility
for Mankind, of consciously stepping into the service of Love.*
*This is a new era and it is in this context that these multiple tragedies
are to be viewed with largeness and clarity. In this new chapter in our
evolution we are being shifted in our awareness of Reality and our
relationship to It. 11th September 2001 was the day when the world woke up
to the fact that this new chapter has already begun. At the same time, what
this episode contains is not pre-fixed: it is in the making, at this moment,
in the form of the choices that each person has to make.*
*These choices are reducible to a single choice from which no one can be
excused; it is unavoidable. It is not a choice simply to be made by our
elected leaders, because the playing field of this choice is not the global,
geopolitical arena of exterior action. The real ground of choice is our own
soul. We now have to choose to accept to become what and who we really are; or to refuse to change, to deny the grandeur of our reality. To stay the
same is to remain with one’s own self idea, based upon otherness and
separation, pride and fear; whereas to accept the change is to agree to be
moved to an unlimited perspective founded upon Oneness of Existence and the unity of human consciousness. In this unity is to be found the reason why
the choice of each person is of ultimate importance.*
*The opportunity offered to each of us is to be of service to Reality, to be
of service to the Love that is the expressive movement of One Existence.
Bulent Rauf, Consultant to the Beshara School from 1975-87, said, “real
service is without the self being self-indulgent in serving people. It has
to be completely without the mixation of the person into the service
rendered. There was an example we used to use: if you find, in a very bad
situation, a friend who needs a glass of water and you give him a glass of
water, that’s not service; that is friendship. But if your enemy is on the
ground and begs for a glass of water, and even before he begs, you give him
a glass of water: that is service.”*
*Service is non-partisan and it makes no distinction between sectors and
sections of humanity. Only such impartial service can adequately serve the
unqualified Love of the Real and become Its heart, hands and feet here in
this world. The Reality of Love is that there is only one need: the need for
Oneness. When this is realised, we will all see the requirement to rebuild
shattered ruins, re-house refugees and to love one’s enemy as oneself. As
things are now, we are divided by our differences. Now is for building the
bridges that will bring all humanity together under the banner of Universal
Love. How can this come about? For Love it is not a difficult matter.*
*Many of those about to die in the multiple tragedies of 11th September were
brought by those events to this immediate threshold of clear perception. On
this doorstep, with no time for thought, was the certainty that they had
only a few minutes to live; that these minutes had to be used wisely and
exclusively for that which was truly essential. They reached for their
mobile phones and called their beloved, to say simply, “I love you”. No
anger, incomprehension or blame at what was taking place. Only Love and the urgency of declaring it; because on this threshold there is only life, death
and Love. To die truly is to be stripped of irrelevancies and falsehood and
to enter into our still centre with only that which belongs to it:
affirmation and Love.*
*Death is a change of state, from this relative condition of existence that
we call life into a state of delimited consciousness and which is the
presence of Absolute Love. It is the Interior of everything and is with us
always. It is our own interior, which was present before we were born and
will be there when we die. It is the reality of our existence to which, if
we are most blessed, we will awaken before we die; if not, when we die, when we cross over the doorstep into unconditioned Welcome.*
*Until we wake up to the Reality of Who, What and Where we are, it is for us
to practise staying on the doorstep, as if we were about to die. Here there
is only Love and Its affirmation; where all else, if there is anything else,
is of very little consequence. There is no necessity of going back to
‘normal’ after these events. There is on the contrary the total requirement
of stepping into service, towards the realisation of the Presence of
Absolute Love, which even now holds all in Its own Being. This is the
possibility for Mankind, which is offered to us now.*

NEW ALBUM NINTH COMING FALL ‘10
New York, NY - Iconic Bauhaus main man PETER MURPHY makes a central cameo appearance as ‘The Cold One’ in Eclipse, the most recent installment of the Twilight series. Eclipse debuts June 30 in the U.S. and July 1 in the UK, where Murphy will be walking the red carpet at the London premiere in Leicester Square at the Odeon Theatre (accompanied by his daughter, Hurihan).
Murphy’s last film appearance was in 1983 when Bauhaus performed “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” in the opening credit sequence of Tony Scott’s vampire thriller The Hungerstarring David Bowie, Catherine De Neuve and Susan Sarandon.
As a bookend to the now-infamous “Bela” performance, Peter felt that a cameo in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was too good to turn down. “Who else could have and should have done it?” he laughs. “It was really lovely and smart of David Slade to ask me…I was honored, actually.”
Murphy’s cinematic role marks the commencement of an eventful rest of the year for the artist, who launches his worldwide “Dirty Dirt Tour” in late July, and is adding the finishing touches to his new studio album NINTH, due in the Fall. Confirmed tour dates, including an August performance at Rebellion Festival in the UK, can be found below. Additional dates will be announced shortly.
Currently living between Istanbul and New York City, the famed post-punk innovator, sonic alchemist and celebrated founding father of the Gothic movement, has been working on several exciting new projects over the past 2 years, most importantly his long-awaited ninth studio album aptly-titled, Ninth. Produced by David Baron, the set follows: 2004’s Unshattered, Dust (2002), A Live Just For Love (live album) (2001), Wild Birds: 1985-1995 (compilation) (2000), Recall EP (1997), Cascade (1995), Holy Smoke (1992), commercial breakthrough Deep (1990), the seminal Love Hysteria (1988) and the 1986 solo debut, Should the World Fail to Fall Apart.
“I have had my Ninth album ready to go for a while now,” Peter explains. “I’ve been playing it live, alongside Bauhaus classics and my own hits, long before the official release and it’s added more stardust to the long shelf life of songs I have under my belt.”
Most recently, Peter ignited a new generation of fans while appearing with Trent Reznor during his 2009 final Nine Inch Nails tour. Famously descending on a chain from the rafters upside down (like the theatrical genius he is) at New York’s Terminal 5, Peter joined Reznor and his band to perform The Downward Spiral favorite "Reptile,” along with Murphy’s "Strange Kind Of Love," Bauhaus' "Kick in the Eye," Joy Division’s “Atmosphere” and Pere Ubu's "Final Solution." Murphy’s cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” has also been a recent staple of live sets.
